Maid falls to death in S'pore
SINGAPORE (Reuters): The eight-story fall to her death of a
maid who had been cleaning windows, the sixth such accident in
Singapore this year, prompted a government call on Wednesday for
worker safety.
The Indonesian maid, who was cleaning the windows of a private
apartment, fell to her death on Monday.
Singapore's Manpower Ministry said in a statement it was
saddened by the death and urged all employers of foreign maids
not to compromise on worker welfare or safety.
In 1998, seven foreign maids fell to their deaths in Singapore
while cleaning windows, up from three accidents each in 1996 and
1997.
