Governor of West Sumatra (Sumbar), Mahyeldi Ansharullah, emphasised that Pancasila must remain the cornerstone for maintaining national unity amid global challenges and the dynamics of state life. He made the statement while serving as the inspecting officer for the 2026 Provincial Pancasila Birth Anniversary Commemoration at the West Sumatra Governor’s Office on Monday (1 June).

During the event, Mahyeldi delivered the speech by the Head of the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) under the theme ‘Pancasila as the Unifier of the Nation, Foundation of World Peace’.

According to Mahyeldi, the Pancasila Birth Anniversary is not merely an annual ceremonial agenda but a moment to strengthen national commitment and actualise Pancasila’s values in daily life.

‘Pancasila is a guide in a world full of uncertainty. Indonesia remains steadfast as a nation capable of uniting diversity because its people still uphold Pancasila’s values,’ he said.

He stressed that Pancasila not only unites Indonesia but also serves as a reference for building a just world peace. Amid technological disruption and global geopolitical dynamics, Pancasila remains a moral anchor guiding the nation’s course.

Mahyeldi also highlighted the importance of the first principle, Belief in the One and Only God, as the foundation of national life.

‘Indonesia was built on faith in God. Therefore, ideologies that distance communities, the nation, and the state from divine values contradict the spirit of Pancasila,’ he said.

He reminded all societal elements to nurture unity amidst Indonesia’s diversity of ethnicity, culture, language, and religion.

‘Differences should not be opposed but understood to strengthen brotherhood and togetherness in national life,’ he stated.

He also urged the public not to be easily provoked by attempts to divide national unity.

‘Let us preserve the spirit of unity and togetherness. Pancasila unites us, and its values must be upheld,’ he emphasised.

Following the ceremony, Governor Mahyeldi presented awards to two members of the West Sumatra Paskibraka (Patriotic Flag Hoisting Team), Zhafran Kazhim from Payakumbuh State Senior High School 2 and Tathyarapsari Tifthazani Dorizen from Painan State Senior High School 3, Pesisir Selatan Regency.

The awards were given in appreciation of their dedication and successful performance during the 80th Independence Day Anniversary Commemoration in 2025 and the 2026 Provincial Pancasila Birth Anniversary Ceremony.
