Mahfud Understands Prabowo Has Not Yet Received Report on Police Reform: President is Busy
JAKARTA - A member of the Commission for the Acceleration of Police Reform, Mahfud MD, has expressed understanding that President Prabowo Subianto has not yet been able to receive the report on the commission’s work. This is because, according to Mahfud, Prabowo is occupied with various issues that demand greater attention, such as the conflict in Iran and Indonesia’s membership in the Board of Peace. “Up to now, the President is busy, busy with the Board of Peace, busy with what else? Busy with Hormuz, busy with what. We understand, this (Police Reform Commission) is not a priority for the President. So we’ll wait, but if we’ve finished according to this,” Mahfud said during a plenary session of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (30/3/2026). He explained that on 2 February 2026, the Police Reform Commission had completed its work and was ready to report to Prabowo, but up to now, it has not had the opportunity to meet with him. Nevertheless, Mahfud stressed that the Police Reform Commission will not leak this report to the public before reporting to Prabowo. “Well, up to today, there has been no response, two months. None. We’ve sent the letter, but we’re holding back the item (the report) for now. Because the President himself said, ‘don’t send the item, I’ll give you a schedule, bring it yourself’. Why? If it’s sent, it might leak. True, true, Mr President,” Mahfud said. Mahfud mentioned that the commission’s report contains several new elements, but it still maintains the things that are already running well. “And in my opinion, it’s good, because we also listened to what the Police want, saw how other law enforcement agencies are, how the bureaucracy is. So the Police won’t be the sole defendant. We made it, not just the Police, everything here is broken. Yes, we’ll convey it. But we’re still waiting for the President up to now,” he said.
