Mahfud MD Scheduled to Deliver Eid Prayer Sermon at Al-Azhar Grand Mosque

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The management of the Al-Azhar Grand Mosque in South Jakarta has scheduled former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Prof Mahfud MD as the sermon giver for the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah prayer.

“Bismillah, there is no special reason. As usual at the Al-Azhar Grand Mosque, the preachers rotate, whether from within Al-Azhar or from outside,” said the Head of the Al-Azhar Grand Mosque Office, Tatang Komara, to reporters in Jakarta on Thursday.

Tatang emphasised that there is no special reason for appointing Mahfud MD as the sermon giver, as the selection is done on a rotational basis.

According to him, the Al-Azhar Mosque routinely invites sermon givers from various circles, both from internal management and external figures, to deliver sermons on certain occasions, including Eid prayers.

“The theme for Eid al-Fitr at the Al-Azhar Mosque is ‘preserving our innate nature, guarding our nation’s land from trials’,” he stated.

The Al-Azhar Grand Mosque will hold the Eid prayer on the green field starting at 07:00 WIB. The timing will be adjusted according to the isbat session.

The mosque management organised various activities during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah, including training on shrouding the deceased, the Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) competition, adhan competition, memorisation of short surahs, and dawn lectures every weekend.

Additionally, there were free health services, a Ramadan bazaar, Tarhib Ramadan, and i’tikaf study sessions in the last ten nights.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will conduct crescent moon observation (rukyatul hilal) for 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah on 19 March 2026 at 117 locations across Indonesia, with the results to be determined through the isbat session.
