Jakarta - Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has revealed that there are at least two steps that can be taken to uncover the alleged civilian perpetrators involved in the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus.

First, through the ongoing military trial currently prosecuting four TNI BAIS soldiers as the perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.

“If that becomes a legal fact (in the military court trial), it can certainly be followed up,” Mahfud said, quoted from the Mahfud MD Official YouTube channel on Wednesday (29/4/2026).

Second, Mahfud said, through the police investigation route.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) stated that the report related to this case has already been received by Bareskrim Polri and can be further developed.

“So it’s possible, it’s still not closed. Especially if the trial facts mention civilians. Other suspects can be formed, which then involve other military personnel involved there,” he added.

He acknowledged that those steps depend on the attitude of the law enforcement apparatus.

However, he hopes the police will remain bold in following up on the existing findings.

“I think they are bold, but they don’t want to get involved in debatable matters like that. But hopefully they will be bold, how can they not be bold about something like this,” he said.

Previously reported, member of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), Afif Abdul Qoyim, suspects civilian involvement in the acid attack case against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus on 12 March 2026.

“In the evidence, we found at least a dozen perpetrators indicated to be in the field,” Afif said during a press conference at Resonansi, Kalibata, South Jakarta, on Thursday (9/4/2026).

Based on the leads obtained, there are indications of connections involving a dozen people suspected of being involved in the acid attack incident against Andrie.

Afif stated that from the analysis of the presence of those dozen people, the possibility is open that the acid attack on Andrie Yunus involved civilians.

“Thus, it is very open for the police to thoroughly investigate this incident,” he emphasised.

The report was filed in the name of Andrie Yunus as the victim and represented by TAUD as legal representatives.

“Why are we doing this? In general, we want to participate in uncovering the truth and also upholding justice for the victim,” Afif said.
