Mahfud MD Questions Why Nusron Wahid Has Not Been Questioned; KPK Responds
The Corruption Eradancy Commission (KPK) has spoken out regarding the pressure from former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, for the Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Nusron Wahid, to be interrogated in the alleged bribery case involving the management of Building Use Rights (HGB) for PT Summarecon Agung Tbk in Bogor Regency, West Java.
The KPK emphasised that the investigation process for the case is still in its early stages. Investigators are currently focused on collecting and completing evidence to deepen the understanding of the case’s construction.
KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the commission asks the public to allow investigators to work in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
“At this stage, it is still the early phase following the hand-caught operation, where the investigation has been decided to proceed to the investigation stage. Investigators are still focused on completing additional evidence,” Budi told journalists in Jakarta on Saturday (19/09/2026).
According to Budi, developments regarding the possibility of other parties having a significant role in the case will continue to be investigated by the authorities.
“We are providing space for investigators to continue their deep-dive in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations,” he said. He also requested that the public await the results of the investigation, including whether other parties found to have a role in the case will be identified.
“Whether there will later be other parties suspected of having a significant role in the construction of this case? We will all wait for the developments,” said Budi.
The KPK’s statement follows Mahfud MD’s previous highlight regarding the lack of information concerning the potential interrogation of Nusron Wahid.
Mahfud believes the KPK needs to explain to the public whether Nusron will be summoned or at least requested to provide a statement in the ongoing investigation.
“In my opinion, for the sake of transparency, the KPK should immediately clarify whether there is an intention to summon or at least examine Nusron,” Mahfud said during a television programme on Friday (18/09).
Mahfud also noted that the examination of Nusron is a matter of public concern because the case relates to the environment of the ministry he leads.
“It does not make sense to the public that he is not being examined. It is illogical. It has been stated openly,” he added.
