Mahfud MD: President Prabowo Does Not Want Police Reform Recommendations Sent to Staff, Fearing Leak
Jakarta - A member of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission, Mahfud MD, stated that President Prabowo Subianto is already aware that the commission’s recommendations have been finalised. Nevertheless, Mahfud noted that during Prabowo’s meeting with Jimly Asshiddiqie in Ramadan, the President requested that the recommendation document not be sent via his staff due to fears that its contents would leak. “Mr Jimly met with the President personally during the fasting month. Sir, we’ve sent a letter to be summoned. If you’re busy, we’ll just send the document later. The President said no. Don’t send it, it might leak,” said Mahfud MD after attending the launch of Jimly Asshiddiqie’s book in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4/2026). “And so until now, it’s finished, we’re waiting for the summons. It’s been more than two months,” he added. Mahfud also disclosed one of the contents of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission’s recommendations, namely, Police Academy (Akpol) recruitment without any sponsored channels. “The only thing that can be announced is that Akpol recruitment must not have any sponsorships from anyone,” he stated. He explained that this sponsorship-free Akpol recruitment would be affirmed through police regulations. “Yes, that’s the announcement. Whether it’s in the form of a police regulation or what, we’ll see,” he said.
