Mahfud MD Points Out Three Errors by Lawyer Oiwobo Who Dragged His Name into Tyo Report
Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has challenged Firdaus Oiwobo, who reported former Gadjah Mada University Student Executive Board chairman Tyo Ardianto. Mahfud considers Oiwobo’s view, which asked the police to examine him, to be clearly misguided. According to Mahfud MD, Oiwobo, who claims to be a lawyer, does not understand the law. The use of the word ‘examined’, Mahfud explained, can only be done once it has become a legal case. If it is just a report, then it is a request for information. ‘In court, that is when one is examined,’ said Mahfud via the Mahfud MD Official YouTube channel broadcast last Tuesday. Secondly, Mahfud stressed that people who enjoy a parody and then laugh are also not committing a criminal act. There is no article in the Criminal Code that ensnares someone for laughing because they heard criticism from others. ‘If the ones to be reported are me and Rocky Gerung for laughing, then there are thousands who laughed, why aren’t they all summoned,’ said the former chief justice of the Constitutional Court. Thirdly, regarding the notion that Mahfud MD needs to be examined for broadcasting Tyo’s views on his YouTube channel, Mahfud said that opinion is also wrong. This is because the YouTube channel he currently runs is a legal entity. Moreover, the company, PT Terus Terang Media, is registered with the press council. ‘And before it was broadcast on this YouTube channel, many had already aired what Tyo talked about,’ he said.
