Jakarta - Former Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Human Rights Mahfud MD has stated that no party dominates decision-making in the Polri Reform Acceleration Commission (KPRP). This is because all decisions in the KPRP, which are to be reported to President Prabowo Subianto, are based on deliberation. “No one dominates. Even though the Polri team has five generals, while the civilians are just me and Mr Jimly, who are not active in the government, everything runs smoothly, with compromises in the sense of deliberation,” said Mahfud during a press conference in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (6/5/2026). For context, the five generals in question are National Police Chief General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo, former Deputy National Police Chief General Pol (Ret.) Ahmad Dofiri, National Police Chief from 2019-2021 Idham Aziz, National Police Chief from 2015-2016 Badrodin Haiti, and Interior Minister who is also a former National Police Chief General Pol (Ret.) Tito Karnavian. Mahfud MD revealed that the KPRP’s recommendations are compiled in 10 books totalling 3,000 pages. All these recommendations have been reported by the KPRP to Prabowo at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026). He emphasised that all public views on the Polri, whether criticisms or support, have been summarised in those documents. The recommendations also include directions for improvements to bring the Polri back to the reform track as envisioned since the early 2000s. However, it was only his first warm discussion with Prabowo in the company of the KPRP on Tuesday afternoon. “Personally, I have the impression that I am quite close or good friends with Mr Prabowo since 2013-2014. We often met, often discussed, but the warmest discussion was yesterday afternoon,” said Mahfud. Mahfud described the meeting atmosphere as relaxed. “His joke was, ‘I’m brave to discuss with these professors,’ he said. ‘Because I too, as Mr Habibie said, am professor-level, right, already a general.’ That was his joke. It means that it was an opener that the meeting was very relaxed and the discussion went very smoothly,” he stated. He also admitted that the KPRP only received notification on Tuesday morning to immediately meet President Prabowo to report the committee’s work results. The meeting was attended by almost all KPRP members, although two other members, Tito Karnavian and Badrodin Haiti, were still out of town.
