Mahfud MD During Sermon: Our Country Now Has Many Stains...

During the Eid al-Fitr prayer sermon at Masjid Agung Al-Azhar in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Saturday (21/3/2026), Mahfud MD spotlighted various problems of corruption and abuses of power occurring in the country. According to Mahfud, just as humans have an innate nature, a nation also has its original purpose of establishment that must be preserved. “Currently, our country has many stains caused by various parties, its people, its officials. There is much corruption and much violence, many abuses of power in the midst of society,” he stated from the pulpit during the sermon on Saturday. In the sermon, he called on the public to utilise the momentum of Eid al-Fitr to improve the situation and return to the nation’s original purpose. Mahfud added that the principles of statehood that must be upheld include protecting humanity, acceptance of diversity, consultation, as well as the enforcement of law and justice without discrimination.
