Mahathir's remark discussed in U.S.
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Malaysian diplomats have met with Jewish leaders in the United States to discuss Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's remarks about Jews, the foreign minister said yesterday.
Mahathir has blamed currency speculators -- most prominently George Soros -- and reportedly a Jewish conspiracy for the drastic devaluation of the Malaysian currency, the ringgit.
"Malaysian Embassy officials have met representatives of the Jewish community in the United States to explain the actual situation," Malaysian Foreign Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was quoted as saying by Bernama news agency.
He did not give details of the meetings.
Diplomats were in touch with members of the U.S. Congress who had introduced a resolution calling on Mahathir to apologize or resign for reportedly making anti-Jewish comments, he said.
