Mahathir 'very good spin doctor': Goh
SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong has described his
Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohamad as a "very good spin
doctor" for saying he had opposed out of nostalgia the building
of a new bridge to link both countries.
Mahathir, a physician by profession, said last week that Goh
had blocked a plan to replace a causeway currently linking the
neighbors with a new span.
He said that Singapore Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew had told
him he had no objections to a new bridge, but that it was Goh who
was against it because he was "nostalgic about the causeway".
Goh said he had been against knocking down the causeway
"because I saw no benefits whatsoever in replacing a perfectly
functioning historical causeway with a new bridge" because of
additional expenses. --AFP
