Mahathir slams Connery film
KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters): Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad lashed out on Tuesday at Sean Connery's latest film Entrapment, accusing the thriller of distorting the truth by juxtaposing slums next to the world's tallest buildings.
In U.S. film studio Twentieth Century Fox's heist thriller, Connery plays an art thief and Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones an insurance investigator. The two engage in a cat-and-mouse game involving tall buildings and the millennium bug.
In one scene, Connery and Zeta-Jones sail down a squalid river with Kuala Lumpur's 88-story twin Petronas Towers glimmering in the background. The images of the river were shot in Malacca, not Kuala Lumpur, and spliced with shots of the 452-meter high skyscrapers.
Mahathir said the towers are surrounded by large gardens, not slums.
