Mahathir due in Myanmar
YANGON (AFP): Security in the Myanmar capital of Yangon was tightened yesterday ahead of a visit here by Malaysian Premier Mahathir Mohamad, sources said.
Mahathir is due to arrive Monday for a two-day official trip to brief leaders in the military state on the Asian economic crisis.
Billboards welcoming the Malaysian premier to the isolated nation have been erected on the road linking Yangon's airport and the city center, while security has been boosted around the state guesthouse where Mahathir will stay.
The official press carried yesterday the first news here on the visit, announcing that the premier would be arriving at the invitation of junta leader and Prime Minister Than Shwe.
