'Mahaputera' awards conferred on 43 people

JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto conferred Mahaputera awards on 43 people yesterday for their contributions to Indonesia's development. Most were cabinet ministers, senior officials and former officials.

Three of the 27 recipients of the highest Mahaputera Adipradana awards were women: The wife of the vice president, Mrs. Try Sutrisno; Minister of Social Services Endang Kusuma Inten Suweno; and State Minister of Women's Roles Mien Sugandhi.

The senior cabinet ministers who received the top honor were Minister of Home Affairs Yogie S. Memet, Minister of Justice Oetojo Oesman, Minister of Finance Mar'ie Muhammad, former trade minister S.B. Joedono, Minister of Mines and Energy I.B. Sudjana, Minister of Transportation Haryanto Dhanutirto, Minister of Forestry Djamaloedin Soeryohadikoesoemo, Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave, Minister of Cooperatives and Small Enterprises Subiakto Tjakrawerdaya, Minister of Manpower Abdul Latief, Minister of Education and Culture Wardiman Djojonegoro, Minister of Health Sujudi and Minister of Religious Affairs Tarmizi Taher.

The state ministers chosen were State Minister of Food Ibrahim Hasan, State Minister of Population/Chairman of the National Family Planning Board Haryono Suyono, State Minister of Investment/Chairman of Investment Planning Board Sanyoto Sastrowardoyo, State Minister of Agrarian Affairs/Chairman of the National Land Agency Soni Harsono, State Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Hayono Isman, State Minister of Administrative Reforms T.B. Silalahi.

The Mahaputera Adipradana awards went to the deputies of the House of Representatives and the speakers of the People's Consultative Assembly: J.A. Katili, Soetedjo, Ismail Hasan Metareum and A. Amiruddin, and former Air Force Chief Marsekal (ret.) Utomo.

The 13 who received Mahaputera Utama awards were former Chief of Indonesia's Peacekeepers to the Middle East Rais Abin, former public works minister Ukar Bratakusumah, former Supreme Court deputy M. Abdoerrachman, former deputies of the Supreme Advisory Board M. Cholil Badawi and Imam Kadri Suprakto, chairman of the State Logistics Agency Beddu Amang, former head logistic agency head Achmad Tirtosudiro, former West Java Governor Aang Kunaefi, former Indonesia Ambassador to Singapore Tuk Setyohadi, former secretary-general to the Ministry of Defense Ali Budiardjo, deputy chief of the Strategic Industry Supervision Agency Giri Suseno Hadihardjono, head of the Central Bureau of Statistics Soegito and the assistant state secretary of foreign affairs Widodo Sutyo.

Three people received Mahaputera Pratama awards: the deputy chief of industrial assessment at the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), Ahmad Suleman Wiriadidjaja; BPPT's deputy chief for natural resources development, Mudaham Taufik; and the former BPPT deputy chief for system analysis, Mohammad Anwar Ibrahim.
