Magnitude 7 earthquake detected in North Kalimantan
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected a magnitude 7 earthquake in the North Kalimantan region early on Monday morning.
In a statement published on its website in Jakarta today, the BMKG said the epicentre was located on land at a depth of 630 kilometres northwest of Tana Tidung Regency, North Kalimantan.
The BMKG stated that the data was released at a preliminary stage immediately after the event and may still be updated as more complete data becomes available.
“This information prioritises speed, so the data processing results are not yet stable and may change,” the BMKG said on its website.
As of the time of publication, no official statement had been issued by the BMKG regarding its analysis of the potential for aftershocks or a tsunami.
