Magnitude 6 Aftershock Shakes Panama
A magnitude 6 earthquake shook Panama at a depth of 35 kilometres (22 miles), the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said, as reported by Reuters on Tuesday (13 October 2026). Panama was previously struck by a magnitude 7.7 earthquake on Friday (9 October), local time.
More than 300 aftershocks have been recorded since the magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Panama on Friday. The quake damaged hundreds of homes and infrastructure across several provinces in the country’s central region, prompting the government to declare a national state of emergency over the weekend.
There have been no reports of fatalities, but at least 27 people were injured and nearly 900 homes were damaged. Emergency officials warned that the figures could rise as impact assessments continue in remote areas.
The worst-affected provinces include Los Santos, Coclé, Veraguas and Herrera, officials added.
