Magnitude 5.4 Earthquake Shakes Boven Digoel, Papua
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 shook Boven Digoel Regency in South Papua Province. The quake occurred at a depth of 57 kilometres. “Mag:5.4 earthquake, (412 km Southeast of BOVENDIGOEL-PAPUA),” wrote the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) via its X account on Thursday (6/8/2026). The earthquake struck at 02:46 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The tremor was located at coordinates 6.55 degrees South Latitude and 143.97 degrees East Longitude. “This information prioritises speed, so the results of data processing are not yet stable and could change as data becomes more complete,” stated BMKG.
