Magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes Bitung, North Sulawesi
An offshore magnitude 4.8 earthquake rattled Bitung, North Sulawesi. The quake was centred at sea with a depth of 50 km. ‘Mag: 4.8, 07-Mar-2026 18:57:30 WIB,’ BMKG said in its official X post, quoted by detikcom on Saturday (7 Mar 2026). The quake was detected at coordinates 1.28° North (LU) and 126.07° East (BT). There is no further information yet regarding the quake’s impacts. ‘This information prioritises speed, so the data processing results are not yet stable and may change as more data becomes available,’ BMKG wrote.
