Magnitude 4.8 earthquake shakes waters off Manggarai, NTT

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 shook the waters 84 kilometres northeast of Ruteng, Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Sunday (23/8).

According to information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) uploaded via its official X account, the earthquake occurred at 00.42 WITA.

The earthquake was centred at coordinates 7.85 degrees South Latitude and 120.50 degrees East Longitude at a depth of 31 kilometres.

In the preceding hours, the waters of NTT were also shaken by a number of earthquakes with magnitudes between 2.0 and 4.0, according to BMKG monitoring.

Earlier, on Sunday (23/8) at 00.26 WITA, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake shook the waters 74 kilometres from Ruteng, Manggarai Regency.

That earthquake was centred at coordinates 7.95 degrees South Latitude and 120.56 degrees East Longitude at a depth of 14 kilometres.
