A magnitude 4.7 earthquake shook Sigi, Central Sulawesi, on Thursday at approximately 20:39 WIB. The epicentre was located on land at coordinates 1.14 South latitude and 120.22 East longitude, 56 kilometres northeast of Sigi, at a depth of 5 kilometres. “Considering the location of the epicentre and the depth of the hypocentre, this earthquake is a shallow type caused by activity on the Sausu Fault,” said Head of BBMKG Region IV Nasrol Adil in an official statement. Tremors were felt in Palu and Sigi at an intensity scale of III. The earthquake is part of an aftershock sequence following a magnitude 6.7 quake that struck Sigi on 16 June 2026 at 10:27 WIB. As of 18 June 2026 at 20:40 WIB, BMKG monitoring has recorded 804 aftershocks, with the largest measuring magnitude 5.3.
