Magnitude 4.6 Inland Earthquake Strikes Tangerang, Banten
A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck Kabupaten Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday evening (21 February).
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the earthquake occurred at approximately 19:23 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), with its epicentre located 3 kilometres southeast of Kabupaten Tangerang.
The quake’s centre was situated inland at a depth of 160 kilometres.
“Earthquake Mag: 4.6, 21 February 2026 19:23:42 WIB, Location: 6.27°S, 106.51°E (3 km southeast of Kabupaten Tangerang, Banten), Depth: 160 km,” read the BMKG notification posted via its X account.
The agency added a disclaimer noting that the information prioritised speed, and that the processed data had not yet been finalised and could change as further data became available.
