Magnitude 4.6 Earthquake Strikes Tigaraksa, BPBD Reports No Damage
A magnitude 4.6 earthquake struck the Kadu Agung area in Tigaraksa District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Saturday evening (21 February).
Despite causing initial alarm, the Tangerang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) confirmed there was no significant impact from the event.
The head of Tangerang Regency’s BPBD, Achmad Taufik, said his team immediately deployed officers to the location identified as the estimated epicentre based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
“Based on accounts from the neighbourhood chief and local residents, at the location identified as the estimated epicentre by BMKG, the earthquake was not felt at all,” Taufik said when contacted for confirmation.
He added that to date there have been no reports of building damage or casualties resulting from the earthquake. The BPBD continues to monitor the situation to ensure conditions remain safe.
Earlier, the BMKG reported that the earthquake occurred at approximately 19:23 local time (WIB). The quake’s location was recorded as roughly three kilometres south-east of Tangerang Regency.
The BMKG stated that the epicentre was on land at a depth of 160 kilometres. As of the latest update, there have been no reports of aftershocks or potential further impacts.
