Magnitude 4.6 Earthquake Offshore Pangandaran Felt in Tasikmalaya and Garut

BMKG reported on Thursday, 21 May 2026, that tremors from a magnitude-4.6 earthquake were felt in Tasikmalaya and Garut at MMI III, with Ciamis recording MMI II-III. The BMKG X account quoted: ‘Earthquake (UPDATE) Mag:4.6, 21-May-26 04:04:56 WIB, Lok:8.34 LS, 108.25 BT (Epicentre in the sea 76 km south of Pangandaran), Kedlmn:23 Km; Dirasakan (MMI) III Tasikmalaya, III Garut, II-III Ciamis.’ The MMI III level indicates noticeable shaking indoors, as if a truck were passing by; MMI II indicates light shaking felt by a few people and the movement of lightweight objects. The quake occurred at 04:04 WIB and was detected at a depth of 13 kilometres. ‘Gempa Mag:4.6, 21-May-2026 04:04:57 WIB,’ another BMKG X post stated. The epicentre was reported at coordinates 8.16 S, 108.24 E, about 58 kilometres from Pangandaran to the west-south-west.
