Magnitude 4.0 Earthquake Strikes Southwest Maluku
A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck Southwest Maluku (Maluku Tenggara Barat) in Maluku Province at a depth of 179 kilometres.
“Earthquake Mag: 4.0, (233 km Northwest of SOUTHWEST MALUKU),” the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) wrote on its official X account, as quoted on Sunday (22/2/2026).
The earthquake was recorded at 02:03 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). The coordinates of the quake were located at 6.81 degrees South Latitude and 129.56 degrees East Longitude.
As of the time of reporting, no further information regarding the impact of the earthquake had been released.
“This information prioritises speed, therefore the data processing results are not yet stable and may change as more complete data becomes available,” the agency stated.
