Magnitude 3.2 Earthquake Shakes Sukabumi Regency, Vibrations Likened to Passing Truck
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 struck the Sukabumi Regency and surrounding areas on Tuesday (24 February 2026) at approximately 10.08 WIB. The epicentre was located inland, 26 kilometres north-east of Sukabumi Regency, West Java, at a depth of 6 kilometres.
“The analysis conducted by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) shows that this earthquake has updated parameters with a magnitude of 3.2,” said the Head of BMKG Bandung, Teguh Rahayu, on Tuesday (24 February 2026).
He explained that the earthquake was a shallow earthquake caused by the activity of an active fault. As of 10:26 WIB, the BMKG’s monitoring had not shown any aftershock activity.
Teguh added that the earthquake was felt in the Kalapanunggal, Kabandungan, and Leuwiliang areas. The vibrations were clearly felt inside houses, and it felt as if a truck was passing by, causing light objects hanging to sway.
“So far, there have been no reports of building damage as a result of the earthquake,” he said. He urged the public to obtain official information regarding earthquakes from the BMKG through official channels.
Previously, the BMKG stated that the peak of the rainy season in the West Java region would continue until March. Therefore, he urged the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather and disasters.
“The public is urged to be vigilant,” he said.
