Magnitude 2.4 Earthquake Shakes Waters off Gunungkidul

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.4 shook the waters off Gunungkidul. The tremor occurred on Sunday afternoon (23/8/2026) at 14:20 WIB, according to information from the Sleman Class I Geophysics Station broadcast on the @bmkgjogja account on X. The earthquake was located at 8.62 degrees South latitude and 110.47 degrees East longitude, precisely 71 kilometres south of Gunungkidul. The quake was classified as shallow because its epicentre was at a depth of 28 kilometres. As of the time of writing, there was no information regarding damage or casualties resulting from the earthquake.
