Parents of pupils at a primary school in the Lowokwaru district of Malang City found maggots in the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) strawberry pudding distributed to the students. Parents protested strongly.

According to detikJatim, on Wednesday (4 March 2026), the MBG dish containing maggots was part of the menu provided to all students at the school on Tuesday (3 March). Complaints emerged from several parents of students in Class III and Class VI, and circulated as photographs and videos in class WhatsApp groups.

“Initially, a Class VI parent contacted me to say the pudding had maggots. After checking and sharing the photos, this incident was also observed in other classes, possibly widespread,” said one parent who asked to remain anonymous.

According to the source, the issue with MBG meals at this school is not the first time. They noted at least four occasions when a number of parents voiced concerns about the cleanliness and suitability of the food provided by the supplier or kitchen.

In response to the findings, the school promptly issued an emergency notice via a group message to all parents. The school asked that today’s strawberry pudding be discarded and not consumed.

“Urgent, regarding today’s menu there is a maggot finding, so please discard it. Do not consume,” read the warning message sent by the school to parents.
