Magetan (ANTARA) - Magetan Regency, East Java, has received the ‘Towards a Clean Regency’ certificate from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia for its waste management in the region.

The certificate was presented by Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq to the Regent of Magetan, Nanik Endang, during the National Coordination Meeting on Waste Management and the commemoration of National Waste Awareness Day at Balai Kartini, Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/02).

“We received this award amidst a waste emergency. This is proof of our collective hard work. However, we also realise that there is still work to be done, especially in strengthening institutions and securing budgetary support,” said Regent Nanik in Magetan, Thursday.

According to her, receiving the ‘Towards a Clean Regency’ certificate is a prestigious achievement because out of 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia, only 35 regions received the certificate, including Magetan.

“This is an achievement that we should all be grateful for. We are committed to improving the waste management system in stages so that in the future, we can move up to a higher category,” she said.

Regent Nanik said that this achievement was achieved amidst the challenge of a waste emergency, so it is proof of the hard work of all levels and the support of the community.

Furthermore, the Regent emphasised that the award is a momentum to strengthen collaboration through the ‘Sort Waste from Home’ movement program that has been launched by the Magetan Regency Government.

This step is considered strategic to reduce the burden on landfills and build a more sustainable waste management system.

“Thank you to all the people of Magetan who care about cleanliness. We dedicate this award to the people of Magetan,” she said.
