Magetan DPRD Chairman Named Suspect in Rp242 Billion Grant Fund Corruption Case

The Magetan District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) has officially named the Chairman of the Magetan DPRD, Suratno, as a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving the misappropriation of grant funds from the Core Ideas (Pokir) programme for the fiscal years 2020-2024, amounting to Rp242 billion.

The Head of Kejari Magetan, Sabrul Iman, stated that the suspect designation was made after investigators examined dozens of witnesses and scrutinised hundreds of documents related to the DPRD Magetan’s Pokir grants. The findings uncovered a pattern of deviant budget management starting from the planning phase.

Investigators strongly suspect that the suspects controlled the grant application process unilaterally. Community groups receiving the grants are alleged to have been merely administrative tools, while all accountability reports (LPJ) were fabricated accordingly.

“Based on the results of the investigation and valid evidence, we have named six individuals as suspects in the alleged criminal act of corruption involving the Pokir grant funds of the DPRD,” said Sabrul Iman on Thursday evening (23/4).

Sabrul added that this misappropriation practice also included direct fund deductions that disadvantaged regional finances.

“Indications of grant fund deductions and activities not matching the on-site implementation conditions were found,” he stated.

Suratno was named a suspect along with five others: JML, a DPRD Magetan member for the 2019-2024 and 2024-2029 periods; JMT, a DPRD Magetan member for the 2019-2024 and 2024-2029 periods; and AN, TH, and ST, who served as DPRD Magetan support staff.

This case involves a massive budget scale. The Pokir grant funds, sourced from the Magetan APBD for the 2020-2024 period, totalled Rp335.8 billion, with a realisation of Rp242.9 billion.

Following the suspect designation, the Kejari Magetan immediately escorted Suratno and the five other suspects to the Class IIB Magetan Detention Centre to undergo the initial 20-day detention period, from 23 April to 12 May 2026.

The Kejari Magetan emphasised that the investigation is not stopping here. Sabrul stated that they will continue to develop the case and are open to the possibility of adding new suspects.
