Joint officers from the Magetan Class IIB Detention Centre, local police, and the TNI conducted raids on inmate cells at night as part of an effort to increase security and provide early detection of potential security disturbances and prohibited items.

The Head of the Magetan Class IIB Detention Centre, East Java, Hadi Wijaya, stated that the raid was carried out as part of an effort to maintain security and order, while simultaneously preventing the entry of illegal goods into the detention centre environment.

“We are committed to ensuring that the local detention centre environment remains safe and orderly. This inspection is part of our preventive efforts,” said Hadi Wijaya during the raid on Thursday night.

During the raid, officers seized a number of items that should not be present in the inmates’ cells. These items included scissors, nails, lighters, forks, spoons, razor blades, glass tumblers, glass plates, glass perfume bottles, cards, and several other objects.

Despite finding these items, officers did not find any narcotics or mobile phones during the joint raid.

“Prohibited items such as drugs, mobile phones, and others were not found. We are always committed to maintaining conduciveness in the Magetan Class IIB Detention Centre, and there is no compromise regarding drugs or mobile phones,” said Hadi.

In addition to the cell inspections, officers also conducted random urine tests on 30 inmates. The results showed that all were negative for any indication of narcotics abuse.

Similar tests were also conducted on five officers of the Magetan Class IIB Detention Centre. The results for all officers undergoing the urine test were also declared negative.

Hadi emphasised that raids and supervision will continue to be carried out periodically, involving the local police and TNI.

“This activity will certainly continue to be implemented, involving many parties, such as the Police and TNI, to carry out joint raids to anticipate and maintain security and order in the Magetan Class IIB Detention Centre,” he said.

Regarding the seized items, the detention centre will handle them in accordance with applicable regulations. Inmates proven to be storing prohibited items will first be given a warning and guidance. If violations are repeated, heavier sanctions may be imposed in accordance with the prevailing rules.
