Magelang Flood and Landslide Emergency Status Extended Until 16 March
Magelang district government (Pemkab Magelang) has extended the emergency response status related to flooding and landslide disasters. The emergency status, originally set for 3–9 March 2026, has now been extended until 16 March 2026.
As of today, clean water supplies remain disrupted in seven villages located on the slopes of Mount Merapi affected by the disaster. The emergency status was initially established for 3–9 March 2026 but has been extended to 16 March 2026.
“We are evaluating what we have accomplished and what remains incomplete. From our assessment, several matters still require attention. For example, clean water supply in several villages remains an issue, and there are also damaged roads and bridges that have not yet been fully addressed,” said Adi Waryanto, the Secretary of Magelang District, to journalists at the District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) on Monday (9 March 2026).
“The forum agreed to propose extending this emergency status to the regent for seven additional days so that relevant government agencies and institutions can take appropriate steps in accordance with their core responsibilities,” Adi added.
Four people were reported missing and two were found dead following the lahar flood that occurred on Tuesday (3 March). Additionally, seven villages on the slopes of Mount Merapi have been reported as lacking clean water supplies.
“There are approximately seven villages affected, if I’m not mistaken. The BPBD will provide detailed information,” Adi said.
Separately, Bambang Hermanto, head of the Magelang District Disaster Management Agency, stated that seven villages have been affected by water supply shortages. These seven villages are located in Dukun District.
“Keningar, Krinjing, Paten, Sengi, Sumber, Sewukan, and Wates. There are 35 hamlets across these seven villages,” Bambang added.
