Magelang Customs Seizes 13,292 Cigarettes Without Tax Stamps in Purworejo
Purworejo - Magelang Customs, in collaboration with Purworejo’s Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), TNI, Polri, and the Prosecutor’s Office, conducted an operation against illegal cigarettes in Butuh District, Purworejo Regency on Tuesday (19 May 2026). The joint team seized 13,292 cigarettes of various brands, including machine-made white cigarettes (SPM) and machine-made kretek cigarettes (SKM), without tax stamps.
Head of Internal Compliance and Education Section at Magelang Customs, Hariyanto, stated the operation was part of Customs’ efforts to curb the growing sophistication of illegal cigarette distribution.
‘Synergy with local government, law enforcement agencies, and public information support is key to successfully eradicating illegal cigarettes,’ he said.
The collaboration also implements the provisions of Indonesian Ministry of Finance Regulation No. 22 of 2026 on the Use of Tobacco Excise Revenue Sharing Fund (DBHCHT).
‘As is known, one use of the Tobacco Excise Revenue Sharing Fund is for customs law enforcement activities. By curbing circulating illegal cigarettes, state revenue from the excise sector will increase and foster healthy business competition,’ Hariyanto added.
