Maersk fetes new ship

JAKARTA (JP): Container transport service Maersk Sealand celebrated a new weekly service for Asia on Friday with the arrival of 1,382 twenty-foot equivalent unit freighter Bernhard Schulle at the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT).

The freighter will join three other existing vessels in operating the weekly service between the terminal, Tanjung Pelapas (Malaysia), Singapore, Hong Kong, Yokohama, Kobe, Osaka, Shanghai, and Ningbo, before returning to Jakarta, JICT said in a statement.

According to the statement, Anil Wats, the Maersk senior owners representative in Indonesia, said the service demonstrates its commitment to the trade and confidence in JICT.

Success in attracting new services from leading shipping lines and a strong trade growth resulted in a new monthly record for container throughput at JICT. In July, the terminal handled 143,685 twenty-foot equivalent units of containers. (10)
