Madurese Community in Malaysia Strengthens Faith Through Short Sermons and Quran Recitations
Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) — The Madurese community in Malaysia, through the Council for Unity and Brotherhood of the Madurese People (MPPM) Malaysia, is strengthening faith and solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah/2026.
The community is carrying out a number of activities throughout Ramadan, ranging from seven-minute sermons (kultum) to collective Quran recitation (tadarus).
“During Ramadan, the Madurese community in Malaysia, through MPPM’s Da’wah and Education Division, is conducting six main programmes,” MPPM Secretary-General Abdul Kholik told ANTARA in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
These include congregational Tarawih and Witr prayers held every evening at the MPPM office, with a pre-arranged schedule of prayer leaders.
The Madurese community in Malaysia is also undertaking collective Quran recitation, with a target of completing the entire Quran twice during the holy month.
The community also customarily holds a halal bihalal gathering after Ramadan and provides special Ramadan charitable assistance.
“The charitable programme is carried out specifically during Ramadan for members or Indonesian citizens in need,” Abdul Kholik said.
Abdul Kholik said the programmes aim to strengthen religious values, fraternity, and social concern among the Madurese community living abroad.
