Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of Commission E of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Muhammad Subki, has proposed that private schools under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, namely madrasahs, be included in the free private school programme.

“I propose to the governor and his team that free schools be followed by free private madrasahs,” Subki said during a plenary session of the DKI Jakarta DPRD in Jakarta on Thursday.

He also praised the free private school programme for the 2026/2027 academic year, which has targeted 103 schools.

However, he stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government needs to pay attention to other private schools, especially those under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, namely madrasahs, which to date have not been included in the free private school programme.

In fact, Subki continued, students at madrasahs are children of DKI Jakarta, and their parents also pay taxes, just like other parents.

“It should be noted that in Jakarta there is also education under the coordination of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, namely madrasahs. They are Jakarta’s children, they pay taxes, so this discrimination must not be prolonged,” Subki said.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Nahdiana, said that the selection of those private schools is prioritised for sub-districts that do not have public schools.

“Prioritised for Private Education Units in sub-districts that do not have education units organised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government,” Nahdiana explained on 17 April 2026.

Previously, 40 private schools were already included in the free private school programme. For the 2026/2027 academic year, the DKI Provincial Government added 63 schools to the programme.
