Madiun goes ahead with gift packages

MADIUN, East Java: Amid the central government's "efficiency
campaign", the Madiun administration has earmarked Rp 1.3 billion
(US$130,000) for the purchase of gift packages for its employees
ahead of the Idul Fitri holiday.

The gift packages will be distributed to 16,500 employees of
the city administration. The packages, consisting of food and
beverages, will be handed out from Friday.

Each gift package cost the administration Rp 80,000 said
Bambang, a spokesman with the Madiun administration.

Earlier, the administration gave every neighborhood chief in
the city a cash bonus for Idul Fitri of Rp 250,000. The number of
neighborhood chiefs in Madiun totals 1,246. -- Antara
