Antananarivo (ANTARA) - The Madagascar government, on Tuesday (7/4), declared a state of energy emergency across its entire territory for 15 days to tackle the major energy supply crisis currently affecting the country. According to the presidential communique, this situation is specifically linked to the impact of the conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted energy supplies and public services in Madagascar. The government stated that this emergency status will allow for the implementation of rapid and targeted measures to restore energy supplies, ensure the continuity of essential services, and maintain the smooth functioning of the national economy. The communique also noted that the ongoing energy crisis is affecting public order, security, and institutional stability. The government reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising all necessary resources to address this crisis and minimise its impact on the daily lives of the population. According to local media, since mid-March, public fuel stations in Madagascar have experienced storage capacity limitations or temporary stock shortages. The country’s supply of refined petroleum products is highly dependent on imports, particularly from Oman.
