Macron urges halt to attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure
Beijing (ANTARA) - In a post on the social media platform X following a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Macron expressed France’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the country’s air defence. Macron emphasised that, in the face of risks from uncontrolled escalation, it is “more important than ever” for all involved parties to implement a moratorium on attacks targeting energy and civilian infrastructure. Macron added that now is the time to act responsibly and exercise restraint in order to create conditions for resuming dialogue. On Saturday (21/3), US President Donald Trump threatened to “attack and destroy” Iranian power plants if Iran fails to fully open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. In response, Iran’s main military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, stated on Sunday that power plants in countries hosting US bases would be considered legitimate targets if the US attacks Iranian power facilities.
