French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his satisfaction at the increasing openness of French food products to the Indonesian market, making the remarks in the presence of President Prabowo Subianto during discussions on strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

Macron stated that the growing trade cooperation between Indonesia and France benefits both countries and supports Indonesia’s ongoing development agenda.

“On economic openness, I want to express to you, Mr President, how pleased we are with Indonesia’s opening of its market to our dairy and beef products, which aligns with your food sovereignty strategy, your ambition to improve your people’s nutrition, and the major social policies you have launched,” Macron said during his meeting with Prabowo, as reported by the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

Not only highlighting the food sector, Macron also stressed the importance of accelerating the implementation of broader economic cooperation between Indonesia and the European Union. He said the ongoing trade agreement would boost trade and investment flows between both sides.

“In the economic sphere, we will strengthen bilateral trade and cross-investment exchanges. In this regard, I hope the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the EU and Indonesia can take effect soon,” he said.

Macron noted that Indonesia and the EU have complementary economic characteristics, offering significant potential for cooperation. Therefore, he urged the swift resolution of barriers hindering investment and trade flows.

“I know you share the same hopes, as we complement each other in many ways. To fully realise this potential, it is crucial that the agreement is fully implemented, particularly regarding the removal of trade and investment barriers,” he added.

During the meeting, Macron also expressed France’s interest in expanding involvement in various strategic projects in Indonesia, with sectors of focus including transport, healthcare, energy, and agriculture.

The establishment of the France-Indonesia High-Level Business Council is expected to serve as a new vehicle to accelerate the realisation of cooperation opportunities that have not yet been optimally developed.

“The first meeting of the France-Indonesia High-Level Business Council will provide a strong impetus. This is the council we wish to establish together,” Macron said.

He added that collaboration between the two nations spans a wide range of areas, including those at the forefront of global economic transformation. Therefore, France aims to deepen partnerships with Indonesia in high-value-added sectors.

“I am also delighted that this council enables us to advance in many areas, particularly in energy transition, mining, and agriculture. There is much to be done to advance and diversify this partnership,” he said.
