Macron 'Furious' with Trump! Urges World to Be Independent - Leave the US Behind
French President Emmanuel Macron has called on middle powers around the world to unite in countering the dominance of the United States (US). Macron stressed the importance of independence so that other countries do not become subordinates to that hegemonic power.
Citing a Bloomberg report on Thursday (03/04/2026), Macron conveyed this during his working visit to Asia. During the trip, he discussed maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz as well as cooperation with South Korea and Japan, two countries affected by rising energy prices.
“Our goal is not to be followers of two hegemonic countries. We do not want to depend on the dominance, say, of China, and we also do not want to be too vulnerable to the unpredictability of the United States,” Macron stated.
The French President stated that European countries share the same agenda with Japan and South Korea regarding issues of international law, democracy, climate change, and global health. In addition, Macron mentioned Australia, Brazil, Canada, and India as countries with a similar vision.
“Together, such a coalition can work on artificial intelligence, space, energy, nuclear power, defence, security - and whatever,” Macron said.
Macron’s statement comes as US President Donald Trump renews his attacks on NATO and other allies. Trump specifically criticised France and South Korea for allegedly providing insufficient support on the Iran issue, and condemned France for not allowing US military aircraft to cross its airspace.
“The United States is a great country. But with its current approach, it risks opening Pandora’s box. I do not believe we will fix this situation through bombing or military action alone,” Macron remarked.
Instead, Macron proposed establishing a deconfliction mechanism with Iran. He also suggested an escort mission for ships in the Strait of Hormuz immediately after the bombing actions end.
Regarding Trump’s threat to withdraw the US from NATO, Macron warned that doubts about Washington’s commitments could damage the foundation of the alliance. He urged world leaders to take a serious stance in maintaining existing strategic cooperation.
“I believe organisations and alliances like NATO are defined by what is unspoken - namely the underlying trust, and that often applies to military and strategic issues. If you question your commitment every day, you erode the essence of the alliance,” Macron asserted firmly.
