Macron Commends Prabowo's Firm Stance on Palestine
French President Emmanuel Macron has praised Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s stance and commitment to supporting peace in the Middle East and Palestinian independence. The commendation was made during a joint statement following their bilateral meeting in Paris, France.
“I wish to pay tribute to your role, your friendship, and the courageous stance you took last year for peace in the Middle East, including your support for Palestinian recognition,” Macron stated at the Élysée Palace in Paris on Thursday, 28 May 2025.
Macron noted that Indonesia and France share aligned visions in maintaining regional stability and promoting peaceful resolutions to international conflicts.
In addition to discussing the strengthening of the Indonesia-France strategic partnership, Prabowo and Macron exchanged views on developments in the Middle East, including the situation in Lebanon and efforts to maintain global peace.
“I wish to honour your commitment, President, your armed forces’ commitment, and our shared determination to continue working for peace and Lebanon’s sovereignty, particularly amidst the ongoing indiscriminate attacks in southern Lebanon that have caused immense suffering and millions of refugees,” Macron added.
Furthermore, Macron told Prabowo that he has long been recognised and respected by the French people.
“You know that France loves you. The French people have shown this to you on 14 July almost two years ago, and you will always be welcome in this country,” Macron said.
