Macron calls for diplomatic solution amid tensions over Iran

Paris (ANTARA) - French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday, 8 March, stated that diplomatic solutions are now more necessary than ever to end escalation and maintain peace.

Macron made the statement in a post on social media platform X following a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

In his post, Macron said he had reiterated France’s strong concerns regarding Iran’s development of nuclear and ballistic programmes, as well as all activities that threaten stability in the region.

He also called on Iran to guarantee freedom of navigation by ending its de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

French news channel BFMTV reported that Macron also held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Sunday. To date, details of that conversation have not been disclosed.
