Machete Attacker Surrenders After Police Manhunt in Bima

SD (28), the perpetrator of a machete attack against a man with the initials BR (30) as he was heading to a cornfield in Bima Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), has surrendered. The suspect gave himself up after being cornered by a police pursuit.

Head of the Bima Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Ghufron Subeki, confirmed on Monday (27/7/2036) that the suspect felt pressured after being hunted by police for two days, leading him to surrender at around 03.00 WITA early this morning. Ghufron revealed that the resident of Sondo Village, Monta District, Bima Regency, turned himself in after police conducted a persuasive approach with SD’s family and the Sondo Village Government.

Upon receiving information that the suspect had surrendered, a joint team of officers from the Monta Police and Bima Police immediately picked him up and secured him at a resident’s house in Waro Village. The suspect was then taken to the Bima Police Headquarters for examination and further legal proceedings.

Based on the results of a preliminary examination, the suspect admitted to his actions. The motive behind the machete attack was a long-standing grudge. The incident occurred when the victim, BR (30), a resident of Tolouwi Village, Monta District, was on his way to a cornfield on Saturday (25/7/2026). He was suddenly intercepted by SD, who was wielding a machete. Upon seeing the suspect, the victim abandoned his motorcycle and attempted to flee, but the suspect chased him down and slashed him repeatedly.

As a result of the attack, the victim suffered serious injuries, including a nearly severed left arm below the elbow, severed left thumb and index finger, and a torn abdomen with protruding intestines. Witnesses who saw the victim lying in a pool of blood immediately took him to the Monta Community Health Centre for medical treatment.
