Macau SAR seeks new cooperation opportunities with Singapore

Singapore (ANTARA) - The Chief Executive of the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR), Sam Hou Fai, stated on Monday that the progress and implementation of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, alongside Macau’s third five-year plan, will inevitably open new opportunities and expand horizons for Macau-Singapore cooperation.

Sam made these remarks during a reception in Singapore organised by the Macau SAR government.

“During the 27 years since Macau’s return to China, the Macau SAR has successfully implemented the ‘one country, two systems’ principle, meaning the people of Macau manage Macau with a high level of autonomy, while maintaining long-term prosperity and stability,” he said.

Sam noted that this year marks the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. To strengthen alignment and coordination with this plan, the Macau SAR government has officially announced its third five-year plan and will provide an attractive and reliable investment environment for foreign investors.

“Macau remains committed to promoting exchange and cooperation at all levels, both official and non-governmental, between Macau and Singapore,” Sam added.

In her remarks, Singapore’s Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Gan Siow Huang, stated that Macau and Singapore have long maintained friendly and close relations, achieving beneficial results in cooperation across trade, investment, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

“Moving forward, both parties can leverage their complementary strengths to further deepen collaboration in tourism and urban development, as well as jointly capture various new opportunities arising from regional development and economic growth,” she said.

Sam is conducting an official visit to Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia from Saturday (29/8) to 5 September.
