Macau Government Appoints 17 Investment Ambassadors to Boost Key Sectors
The Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) government has appointed 17 Investment Promotion Ambassadors to strengthen foreign capital inflows in the first half of 2026. The strategic move optimises the city’s role as a hub connecting Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking regions. The investment ambassadors include prominent figures from the technology, healthcare, and financial sectors.
The business network-based promotion scheme also synergises the production capacity of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. The Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) recorded that 133 investment projects had been completed and followed up during the same period. The realisation of these projects successfully created 787 new jobs for the local labour market.
Incoming projects include public companies and high-prospect entities in high-tech, distinctive finance, and biomedicine sectors. The implementation of the Investment Fund Law has also accelerated capital inflows after eight investment fund management companies obtained licences or preliminary approval.
Large-scale health industry development has been further strengthened by investment expansion from three pharmaceutical companies. In addition, health-based tourism business models such as day hospitals and advanced therapy are beginning to be developed. In the commercial sector, a traditional Chinese medicine company opened a cultural experience pavilion, while a restaurant chain from Portugal officially entered Macau. The presence of these new brands enriches the retail ecosystem and strengthens the local community economy.
IPIM recorded that more than 50 global companies have expressed initial interest in operating in the Macau Science and Technology Research and Development Industrial Park. This strategy complements cooperation with a semiconductor company from the Yangtze River Delta that is building a research centre in Macau. To support the Third Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), IPIM has scheduled the launch of the First Store Economy Support Programme as well as a joint Macau-Hengqin development scheme in the second half of this year.
