MAB Sets Up EV Truck Assembly Facility in Pasuruan

PT Mobil Anak Bangsa (MAB) is expanding its electric vehicle business base in Indonesia. Following its assembly facility in Demak, Central Java, the company is now preparing a new plant in Pandaan, Pasuruan Regency, East Java. The new facility will focus on assembling commercial electric vehicles, from medium to heavy-duty electric trucks for mining needs. “The location is in Pandaan, Pasuruan Regency. It’s about an hour from Surabaya and also an hour from Malang, so it’s positioned between the two cities,” Rofiqi told Kompas.com in Bekasi, West Java, on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. According to him, the acquired land spans approximately five hectares and is targeted to commence operations by late June 2026. Rofiqi explained that the facility was previously a coachbuilder company, which MAB acquired to support the development of commercial electric vehicles. “Previously, the facility was a coachbuilder company. Since it entered receivership, we took it over and converted it into a dedicated assembly plant for our medium and heavy-duty EV trucks,” he said. This expansion demonstrates MAB’s commitment to strengthening its commercial electric vehicle lineup in Indonesia, particularly for logistics and mining sectors increasingly adopting zero-emission vehicles. “In collaboration with Yutong, we have also signed a partnership agreement with them,” Rofiqi said. “Currently, we are trialling EVs in several mining areas, and the results have been encouraging,” he added. This move is part of MAB’s strategy to expand the use of commercial electric vehicles in heavy industry while supporting Indonesia’s clean energy transition.
