MAB Plans to Develop Electric Passenger Van
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Mobil Anak Bangsa (MAB) is expanding its electric vehicle lineup in Indonesia. After focusing on electric buses, the company now plans to introduce a battery-powered microbus or electric van for passenger use. The plan was disclosed by MAB’s Senior Marketing Manager Communication, Achmad Rofiqi, who said the model will target medium-capacity mobility needs. However, Rofiqi has not revealed details such as specifications, launch timeline, platform, battery capacity, or range. This move demonstrates MAB’s commitment to the growing commercial electric vehicle segment in Indonesia. If configured for 16 passengers, the model would fill a niche currently used for travel, shuttle, and tourism transport services. According to Rofiqi, MAB’s commercial electric vehicle development will be centred at its production facility in Central Java. Commercial electric vehicles are increasingly attracting business operators due to their operational efficiency, especially in urban areas. In addition to lower energy costs compared to fossil fuel vehicles, electric vehicles are seen as supporting carbon emission reduction targets in the transport sector.
