M6.7 Earthquake Shakes Sangihe Islands, North Sulawesi

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 struck the Sangihe Islands in North Sulawesi on Friday evening, with its epicentre located 196 kilometres north of Tahuna. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated there is no tsunami potential. The quake, which was initially reported as magnitude 6.8, occurred at 18:34 WIB (19:34 WITA). BMKG recorded the epicentre at sea, 196 kilometres north of Tahuna in the Sangihe Islands Regency, at a depth of 10 kilometres. Tremors were also felt on the Sulawesi mainland in Gorontalo, Toli-Toli, and Buol, with an intensity of II-III on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale. As of the time of writing, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
