M5.3 Earthquake Shakes Pangandaran, BMKG: No Tsunami Potential
An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 shook Pangandaran Regency, West Java, on Wednesday (5/8) at 21.55 WIB. The epicentre was located at coordinates 8.23 degrees South latitude and 107.89 degrees East longitude, approximately 79 kilometres southwest of Pangandaran Regency. According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred at a depth of 18 kilometres. The BMKG confirmed that the tremor did not have the potential to cause a tsunami. The agency also urged the public to seek and verify earthquake information from accurate sources. It noted that the preliminary data prioritises speed and that processing results may not yet be stable and could change as more complete data becomes available.
